Whether you want to work indoors or outdoors, no day will ever be the same. As an employee you can expect a great working environment, employee benefits, competitive wages and the experience of a lifetime.

For winter employment, we commence the recruitment process around August/September and have most employees start work between November & December depending the position. Once the recruitment process commences, we will advertise winter vacancies on our website and candidates can apply directly online by submitting their tailored cover letter and resume.

For winter employment, we generally do not conduct Skype or face-to-face interviews until our recruitment fairs have concluded. Therefore, your best chance to obtain an interview for the winter is to attend one of the many recruitment fairs that the ski resort partakes in during September and October.

Prior to submitting an application for a position at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, we request you read the following information.

Commitment

There are various positions that have different start dates and end dates. Snowmakers start in early October and are usually finished in late December/early January. When we hire a new employee we want them to make a commitment for the full season for their position. Most start dates will be between October 24th and December 15th and finish dates between April 15th and May 10th. Lake Louise cannot hire employees that are just looking to spend their university break or 1-2 months working at a ski resort. The amount of training and timing of the breaks do not fit with our business goals of providing guests with the best experience possible. It is also very rare that we will be able to accommodate time off for holidays during the season.

If you enjoy your time at Lake Louise, there are many opportunities to carry on your employment into the following season. Lake Louise gives preference to internal candidates for all seasonal positions before we start external recruitment.

Snow School FAQ

Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding Snow School employment at the Lake Louise Ski Resort. If you have other questions not answered here please contact us directly.

How many days a week does an Instructor usually work?

All seasonal roles work flexible shifts, which are subject to varying hours.

A full time Instructor can expect to be scheduled 4-5 days per week during the regular season and 5-6 days per week during the peak times.

A part time Instructor can expect to work 2 days per week, but must commit to working extra days during our peak times.

Hours per week in the Snow school are dependant on weather and visitation levels. Due to these unpredictable variables we can never guarantee hours. There are times during the season that you can expect to receive a reduction in hours, but with good planning you can take full advantage of these opportunities to train, take a course or do some sightseeing!

How much does a Ski or Snowboard Instructor get paid per hour?

Wages will be discussed at the time of interview. Pay rates vary depending on the number of seasons the Instructor has taught and the levels of certification achieved.

How many hours a day does an Instructor usually work?

Most of our lessons are full day lessons, so if you are assigned to a lesson you will usually work between 5 and 6.5 hours a day. We do have some half-day lessons that are 3 hours long.

Do you recognize Foreign Certifications?

Yes, we recognize most Foreign Certifications as long as they are recognized by the ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association). Since different Countries have different standards and level structures, we evaluate and compare each Countries system and then determine its CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Association) equivalency.

Some common Certifications:

  • • APSI (Australian Professional Snowsports Instructor) Level 1 = CSIA Level 2.
  • • NZSIA (New Zealand Ski Instructors Association) Level 1 = CSIA Level 2.

Note: If your Certification is recognized by the ISIA as an International Certification and you have an ISIA stamp on your Certification Card, then you will be granted CSIA Level 3.

When do you usually hire and what information do I need to provide?

The bulk of the hiring is done in the months of August, September and October.
There is certain information that you will be required to provide during the application process.

  • • Copy of your resume with cover letter.
  • • At least 2 work related references, preferably with email addresses (especially for international applicants).
  • • Your work visa and passport (international applicants).
  • • Original copies of any certification, (they will be photocopied and returned during the interview).
  • • All applicants applying for an Instructor position are required to provide a "vulnerable sector" police record check. (International applicants should obtain an equivalent police check before leaving their home country) It must be dated within the last 18 months.

Do I have to come to Lake Louise for an Interview?

While it is always great to see an applicant in person, we recognize that it is costly to travel to and stay in Lake Louise whilst going through the application process. We are very happy to arrange a telephone interview with applicants who have the credentials we are seeking.

Does Lake Louise Ski Resort Sponsor Ski or Snowboard Instructors

Due to limited supply the Lake Louise Ski Resort will unfortunately NOT be accepting applicants requiring sponsorship for the upcoming winter season. In order to be considered as a new hire you must have your own open work visa without a letter of offer.
